Bloganuary 12, 2024 | snacks

Dear World,

Define the noun snack

– a small amount of food eaten between meals –
“not many people make it through to the evening meal without a snack”

Define the verb snack

– eat a snack –
“she likes to snack on yogurt”

Though I’m also the noun that is known as an attractive person, that’s not the snack I’m referring to for this Bloganuary task. Right now, I’m speaking of yummy food that I like to eat in-between meals.

I’m sure you have your favourite snacks that you swear by being the best ever. You know, the orgasmic, heaven-on-earth, scrumptious deliciousness in every bite type of food. For some, it’s chocolate bars or anything that satisfies a sweet tooth. For me, it’s a combination of yogurt, granola chunks, cut fruits – like berries, apples, or pineapples – and bits of chocolate. 🤤

Just writing about it has my taste buds doing back flips and my mouth salivating.

I started having this snack because I found it to be a much healthier choice than the overprocessed snacks in the crinkle sounding bags that’s filled with way too much sodium and preservatives.

Initially, I wasn’t sure of how it would taste. So, I started out small. When pleasantly surprised, it was immediately placed atop my dietary priorities to consume my yogurt granola fruit and chocolate bowls. I’d have it once every other morning to start my day.

All that aside, it’s been a long while since I’ve had my favourite snack. I guess I sorta fell out of love? It also became a tedious task to find the specific granola brand and chocolate 🍫 chunks to add to my mixture.

Now, I’m not saying that my favourite snack is 100% healthy and free from bad fats, sugars, and sodium. I’m just saying that I know I run a better chance of making healthier choices based on the vitamins, minerals, fibre, good fats, and natural sugars found within the mixture.

Side bar, I’m pretty clear that having chocolate often may not be as healthy as I would like it be.

I’d give anything to have that right now.

Is there a lesson to learn in me missing my favourite snack? Maybe there is.

Lessons in healthy food choices

What I’d say is that you should always make a conscious effort to substitute unhealthy food options with healthier ones as part of your personal health and wellness drive.

Give yourself a fighting chance at better health by making healthier choices. You should also consider reading the nutrition facts at the back of the packaging. If you don’t know how to read the packaging, learn.

Last but not least, become an advocate for front of label packaging. The benefits of such packaging are beneficial for all and, in the long run, for the health of a nation.

For brawta (an additional one): supplementing healthier food choices with overall lifestyle changes will do wonders for you. Walk or run, reduce the juices and sodas, and so on.

Make sense?
