Blogmas 2021 | 12 Days of Christmas | Day 3
Dear World,
Ever been scared to make a decision and run with it because of what people may or may not say about you and your choices?
No? You’re lying. Get over your denial and embrace the truth.
For those of you who said yes, thank you for being honest. Additionally, you too need to get over yourself and the doubt you put in your head. In patois/patwa – that we speak in Jamaica – mout mek fi talk. So, once people got a mind and their mouth, they gonna talk. Some people will speak good and positivity over your life and others will be all negative and icky and eww. You don’t deserve to have the latter in your life, but they exist – unfortunately.
So, on the premise that people from all walks of life will have something to say, why not make it worth your while? After all, you should be living your life for you, right? If folks want to make a show out of it, that’s a them problem and not a you problem.
As long as their conversations behind your back and unsolicited advice do not physically prevent you from doing what you need to do or want to do, leave them be. Focus on yourself and be mindful of who you share all the details of your decisions with.
That’s another thing. When you make moves, don’t tell the whole world.
What you need to do is to ride the waves of the unqualified and false truths. When I tell you, the opinionated will have much to say and it often feels like the negatively opinionated will live in your head rent free.
Some of the times, them living rent free is a result of you soaking up their negative energy. This may also be compounded with that annoying imposter syndrome. I should probably give my Blogmas TED-ish Talk – Subruban Girl JA style – on that topic. Maybe. Stay tuned.
Take a deep breath, do your self analysis, make your decisions and run with them. Learn to live with the consequences of your choices as well. Block out the noise from the ones who truly don’t matter, and the ones who only speak negatively over your choices.
When I tell you the more they talk, the higher the waves and the greater the frequency of the waves. Learn to swim and learn to surf cause you’re in for an interesting ride. Oh yeah, wear your life jacket and rub that sunblock on your skin cause there are some sharks out there…also wolves in sheep clothing who will feel nice to have in your back pocket – but too much of their presence can harm you.
Develop great discernment and weed out the pesky roots from your life. Eliminate them and feed into the nourishing ones.
Again, get over yourself and the people who run their mouths. You do know that people will have something to say about you and your life decisions regardless of who they are and who you are, right? Everyone has an opinion. Some will use their opinion to help guide you, support you and cheer you on. Others will give their opinions with ill will in their hearts and minds. It’s kinda hard to maneuver but you have to figure it out somehow.
And! For you the people who judge willi nilli and force your negative energies onto people – stop it. Focus on yourself and the issues in your life. Imagine if you put all that energy into fixing your own life. Shit would be amazing for you, right? Or at least way better than they currently are. Get your life, man. Leave people alone. If you have nothing good or uplifting to say, shut up. Respectfully.
Anyway, I feel like it’s time to stop talking.
*These thoughts are my own and they’re not necessarily supported by empirical evidence. Great, glad to have gotten that out the way.
Okay, bye.
Signed with love,
The Suburban Girl JA
