Dear World,
Prelude to January 2022
So, I did my version of Blogmas that ended on December 26th. It was a challenge to blog and publish my thoughts consistently for 12 days straight. Though I produced 12 blog posts, they weren’t done consistently. I missed a few days and as such, some days had 2 posts while a few had none.
However, I stuck with it and held myself accountable for missing any days or my ideal publish time. This was necessary to try and cultivate a healthy blogging habit. It’s been a journey for this Suburban Girl, but a 12-day series was a good start. I did well enough and I look forward to being even more consistent.
That being said, I have to give myself a boost and a pop of the collar. I’m proud of the accomplishment and I look forward to improving and growing.
Additionally, I’ll be participating in Bloganuary for 2022. I’ve already placed the badge in the footer of this blog site and I’ve prepared my mind to interpret the prompts that the WordPress team will share. Wish me luck!
In the meantime, as I try to consistently daily blog, I have a few words to share below. Take from it what you will!
Boost Yourself!
The same way you boost your friends should be the same way you boost yourself.
If you know of Supligen, then you should completely understand the principle of this letter.
For those of you who don’t know, this ‘meal in a drink’ (that’s what I call it) is “a liquid meal supplement providing nutrition and energy for an active and demanding lifestyle. Supligen is fortified with vitamins, calcium, and iron to boost the energy of people on the go.”
Its known slogan is, “Supligen boosts you up!”.
Before I go any further, let me just say that this is not a paid opportunity #NotAnAd. I’m simply using the analogy of boosting yourself in the manner that Supligen is said to boost your body.
So, in Jamaica, we like to call our hype men and women, “Supligen” because they’re known for giving that motivation, that little extra push to have that burst of energy when it comes to celebrating their friends. Naturally, that moniker comes from the drink and what it does.
The view I tend to have is this, “if you have no problems being a personal cheerleader, spirit booster, and ‘Supligen’ for your friends, you should be able to give yourself that same level of energy and cheer and vote of confidence.
Though it’s nice to know that there are people in your corner and having those people boost you just as much as you root for them, you cheering for you is also nice. You cheering for your wins and moments of greatness or moments when you need a push is also amazing. I say that it’s a form of self-care.
For some of us, it may be harder because of self-confidence levels and the unfamiliar territory of cheering for ourselves.
I get that.
However, we need to practice doing for ourselves the very thing we don’t even bat an eye for when doing for others.
After all, if you don’t do it for yourself, there’s not a guarantee that anyone else will.
On the flip side, it is important to note that Supligen is a dairy product and it contains ingredients that don’t often sit well on the stomach of some people. I say that to say, while drinking this ‘boosting’ beverage, be mindful that it may make you uncomfortable and loosen the bowels.
Treat this side of being a human Supligen with care. We don’t want to have a situation where while you boost yourself, you end up in situations that are not good for your physical, or mental health. Essentially, we need to be careful to not be the proverbial trigger for a personified diarrhoea.
I know we’re talking about rooting for ourselves but apply this when boosting your friends as well. Find out if they’re allergic to dairy or any other ingredient likened to what may be found in the actual drink.
That aside, it’s fine to alter the consistency of your Supligen-ness when cheering for your friends and when cheering for yourself. You may have to add some almond milk and do away with the dairy.
That’s okay. It doesn’t make you less of a Supligen.
World, if you get nothing else from my chattings about being a Supligen, get this:
Boost yourself, the same way you boost your friends. Additionally, don’t ever forget to boost yourself for all of 2022 and beyond.
Oh! I contributed a large chunk of this blog post to a site that I share some work with. They address meant health and general self-care matters. Check it out at Her Voices
*These thoughts are my own and they’re not necessarily supported by any real empirical evidence. Mention of any brand or idea that’s known outside of me is purely coincidental or solely for the purpose of connecting ideas. Also, Supligen did not ask me to talk about them, and this is not a collaboration with them…nor is it sponsored. Great, glad to have gotten that out the way.
Signed with love,
The Suburban Girl JA
