Time and Perspective

Dear World,

The older I get, the more I come to terms with the fact that though time is ‘longer than rope’, or that ‘time waits on no man’, or that ‘being early is being on time and being on time is being late’ are all just constructs to highlight a few constants.

  • No matter what we do with our time, we still get older
  • Getting older – even by seconds – means that we’re closer to the day that we leave this earth
  • If we see the need to change something with the remaining time we have, waiting for tomorrow will always yield the outcome that the change still hasn’t come

I have also come to terms with the fact that time and distance will provide the truest tests for relationships that claimed to have unbreakable bonds. Time and distance plus other competing factors like ‘life happens’ and ‘shit happens’ will definitely show you the value that you place on your relationships. They’ll also show you the value that others place on the relationship they have with you.

By the way, time, distance, and other competing factors influences the relationship you have with yourself. You might not be in alignment and continue to operate for years being as such. If or when that happens, you’ll neglect your own needs and that, in turn, will impact what you have with others.

All I know is, we claim to run out of time but after we’re gone, time will continue. Heck! Before we were born, time existed in all its glory.

So, whatever direction you’d like your life to go, use the time you have wisely. It can be taken away from you in a second or a minute or an hour or…whatever else.

Also, everything we’re doing and going through right now is eventually gonna lead us to our deaths. Yes. All of this just to die.

That’s what I think about the passage of time and how it’s influenced my perspective on life.

Side note. When it comes to time zones, many people fail to comprehend that there’s a difference between EDT and EST especially when you factor in Daylight Savings Time. Get it together, man! People like you spoil virtual meetings because you refuse to comprehend.

Also, listen to Semisonic’s ‘Closing Time’ and think beyond the surface of what it means. Give ‘Everybody’s Free (Wear Sunscreen)’ by Baz Luhrmann. Those two really shaped my thoughts on the perspective of time.
